All sectors of our society and industry need materials to function. These can be simple clothing textiles, but also elaborate materials for the construction of space rockets. The greater the volume required by these markets, the greater the pressure on prices. As a result, especially in mass markets, the best technical solution cannot be used because it is often too expensive. FibreCoat will change this in the coming years. By producing composite fibres at high speeds we can achieve special properties at low production costs.

We are convinced that constant innovation in the basis of our economy, namely the materials sciences, have the potential to sustainably improve our environment, our society and our lives. Therefore, as we strive for innovation, we will, achieve a sustainable, accessible and affordable material for our planet and beyond.

We are currently focusing on two material systems. Plastic-coated glass fibres will revolutionise the fibre reinforced plastic market as they offer better properties than current solutions and are 50 % cheaper to produce and process. The use of this material will enable lightweight construction in most areas of the mobility sector. Aluminium-coated basalt filaments achieve the properties of solid metal fibres at a fraction of the price. Here, savings of a total of 90% are possible compared to current solutions. Due to this enormous cost advantage, existing niche applications can be made cheaper, but the main impact will be in new applications that are made possible by the reduced price.

The award-winning founders got to know each other during their scientific activities in Aachen and complement each other due to their different education and skills. Alexander Lüking is the expert for glass fibre production and has a wide scientific network. He is responsible for R&D and specifically PolyCoat as CIO. As an industrial engineer working on metallized yarns, Richard Haas is responsible for the production of AluCoat and CTO of FibreCoat. Dr. Robert Brüll holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and a M.Sc. in Management, Business and Economics and was a department head at the university. Due to his insights in management and materials as well as his extensive industry network he acts as CEO of FibreCoat.
