Numi foods develops seafood alternatives for everyone to enjoy. We are starting with hyper-realistic shrimp, bringing together plant-based proteins and innovative biotechnological approaches.

Our mission: Bringing balance back into our food system by offering delicious and healthy seafood alternatives. Using the power of plant protein and biotechnology, numi foods is delivering the next generation of sustainable seafood.

Numi foods develops hyper-realistic products, such as vegan shrimps by processing natural ingredients with top notch food technology and innovative molecular biology approaches. This means: Our scientists are analyzing every detail of real seafood: “How does it taste so good?” or “Where does this mouthwatering smell come from?”. We answer these questions and find innovative solutions to recreate the real seafood experience, not only in taste and texture, but also with respect to nutrition. We will create the simple solution for all ocean-friendly seafood lovers out there.

Numi foods was founded in 2022 by Marilena and Anton. From different ends of the world, both foodies, Marilena, a German-Japanese hybrid with a background in strategy and business development and Anton stemming from Australia, with a PhD in food-science and biotechnology met in Berlin, to solve one of world’s largest challenges: Reducing pressure from the food system.

Anton is THE EXPERT on creating alternatives on pea-protein. He worked as Head of R&D at the Berlin food-tech company “vly” to develop products from bench-top to commercial reality.

On the business side Marilena keeps everything away, so Anton can focus on product development. She has extensive experience in business development and sales through her work at the management consulting firm McKinsey & Company and the food-tech startup Infarm.
